Speaker 1:
Welcome back to the Live Life Unapologetically podcast. I am Shannon, and today we’re going to rip apart the lie that has kept women small, exhausted and waiting for permission for too long. And that lie is that you have to earn what you desire, that you have to prove yourself to be worthy of receiving more, that you must hit some invisible milestone before you’re allowed to have what you want. And I need you to hear me when I say that this is complete and utter bullshit. If you’ve ever felt like you need to work harder, be better, fix yourself or reach some level of perfection before you can have the life you want, then you, my friend, have been trapped in the worth block, and today we’re shattering that cage because there are no prerequisites to abundance. The universe isn’t handing out wealth and success like a stingy boss and making you prove yourself before you can get your paycheck. You’re already worthy. You don’t have to earn what’s already yours. So grab your favorite drink, cozy up and let’s get into it.
Speaker 1:
From the time we were little girls, we were fed this unspoken rule Cozy up and let’s get into it. You put in the effort and, instead of getting what you want, you’re handed more responsibility, more expectations, and you still feel like you quite haven’t done enough. Women are taught that everything we receive must be earned. Want a raise, prove yourself first. Want success, pay your dues. Want more money. Work harder than everybody else. Want happiness Make sure you’ve fixed yourself first. Let’s not even start on perfection. You fixed yourself first. Let’s not even start on perfection, because women, more than anyone else, are expected to be flawless before they dare to ask for more. If you run a business, who are you to raise your rates if you haven’t done it for such a long time to be considered an expert? And even then people are still going to question you and so you never raise your rates? Or who are you to want wealth? What makes you think you’re so special? What makes you think you’re so much better than someone else that you deserve to be wealthy? Who are you to desire an extraordinary life when you haven’t even mastered the ordinary yet? Don’t you know you have to master where you are and be really, really good at that first, before you’re allowed to level up? Who the hell decides when you’ve earned it? Because the last time I checked, there was no universal gatekeeper handing out rewards based on some invisible progress chart. Your desires came to you because they were meant for you. You don’t have to earn them. You don’t have to wait for someone to tell you you’re worthy. You don’t have to check off a damn list of accomplishments before you can step into the life you want.
Speaker 1:
I remember being so caught up in having to deserve that. I felt like an imposter, even though I was a master in my previous career. I was in my previous career for 15 years. By year five, I believe it was somewhere around year five, year six I received a national award for my work and I felt like I didn’t deserve it. Now, in hindsight, looking back, hell yeah, I fucking deserved that award, but at the time I didn’t feel like I deserved it. It made me very uncomfortable and there were even people who told me wow, you got an award and you’ve only been doing this for a short amount of time, which made me doubt myself even more. How long did I have to do something to be good at it, to receive from it? I only felt like I had mastered it and I was good enough the last year or two, so around year 13,. Did I even feel like, hell yeah, I’m a master at this. And what’s really funny is it wasn’t because I got an award, I actually got multiple awards.
Speaker 1:
Before I ever came to this internal realization, I was sitting there with myself thinking and nobody told me. Like when I tell you? Nobody told me this. I sat there one day I was talking to a friend and I was like I am a fucking master at this and nobody can tell me otherwise. It didn’t come from the outside validation. As a matter of fact, I had outside validation leading up to that, but it was internal, the internal validation to where I was like hell yeah, I’m a fucking master at this. That’s the place we got to get to. You don’t have to earn it. You don’t have to check off the list, you don’t have to wait for the validation. Sometimes, validation can make us uncomfortable because you have to validate within yourself first. You don’t have to check off some list. You are worthy. Period Once you decide inside hell yeah, I’m worthy, I’m deserving, I belong in this space.
Speaker 1:
Going back to your desires came to you because they were meant for you. You have a desire because you’re meant to have that desire period, simply because of who you are. You don’t have to earn it, though. There’s nothing that you need to do. You just have to co-create with the universe, and that’s it. When we talk about co-creating with the universe, we have to make something very clear, and that’s that manifesting is not a system of rewards and punishments. The universe isn’t a corporate manager deciding if you’ve done enough to get your bonus.
Speaker 1:
You don’t manifest by working harder, by being perfect or proving yourself to anyone. You manifest by aligning with what you desire, and that’s it. You manifest by opening yourself up and saying I deserve this because I want it, and that’s the only reason. Just like I had to open myself up to say I don’t need to keep pushing myself to the absolute limit to prove myself. I am amazing at what I do, but I had to get that from inside of me. That was the alignment. And with that alignment, so many more things opened up in my life, with this realization that I had been trying to be a perfectionist in any and everything I was trying to do, including my career. And I was finally set free because I decided to just love myself where I was and say I don’t have to be perfect, because the moment I realized that I had mastered what I was trying to do, that I was good at it, that I was worthy. Things were not perfect. In fact, it was the hardest year of my career to date. But in that hard moment I realized I fucking rock. I’m amazing, because alignment has zero to do with effort and everything to do with self-worth.
Speaker 1:
If you believe that you earn your desires, then you’re always going to be just out of reach of them. You’re always going to feel like you have to do one more thing before you’re ready. That’s a never-ending cycle. It’s a very demeaning cycle. It’s a defeating cycle. But when you decide right now that you’re already enough, you’re already worthy, you’re already capable of receiving without proving a damn thing, that is when things shift. That is when abundance starts to flow, because manifestation doesn’t respond to effort, it responds to belief. Can I please say that for you one more time? Manifestation does not respond to effort, it responds to belief. You may think oh my gosh, I have to meditate better. Maybe I’m not scripting right. That’s why my manifestations aren’t coming. Is something wrong with my vision board? Oh, maybe if I just do more and put in more, then the universe is gonna do what I want it to do. It doesn’t care, it just cares what you believe. I want you to think about that.
Speaker 1:
Before you entered into purposefully manifesting and co-creating your life, you were still manifesting your life. Manifestation doesn’t just happen because you decide you want to manifest. It’s always happening. It has always happened because we subconsciously manifest our life. So whatever’s in your subconscious runs the show, creates your reality. Well, what does that have to do with anything, shannon? Well, I’m going to tell you your subconscious is what you truly believe. We can repeat the affirmations, we can do the scripting and the journaling. We can do all of those things on a conscious level, but 95% of what’s running the show is our subconscious.
Speaker 1:
We have to change our beliefs. So it doesn’t really matter how much effort you put behind it, if you don’t believe what you’re doing, what you’re saying, what you’re affirming, that’s the response you’re getting from the universe, because manifestation comes from the belief. Now we can use things like scripting, journaling, meditation, affirmations, aligned action, inspired action, things like that, to change our belief. And I think that’s where we get it confused in the manifestation space. We think we’re trying to manifest the money, the business, all of that stuff, when we really need to be focusing on changing our beliefs. When we change our beliefs to match what we desire. It comes easily because it is a line. So we have to tackle the belief.
Speaker 1:
The real work is the belief part, not the effort part of just trying to force it. Force it, force it and we just change what we believe and we are gracious with ourselves, understanding that it is meant for us. But we have to work on things like our self-worth, because as women, we’re demeaned so much in society in subtle and not so subtle ways that we don’t feel like we’re worthy. We want to manifest the successful business and the abundance. We keep putting forth effort and effort and hustling ourselves into the ground to prove something, but we’re not fixing the worst belief. We’re not being gracious with ourselves and loving ourselves and pumping ourselves up and saying I’m fucking worthy, believing that we’re worthy.
Speaker 1:
If you’ve run a business, you’ve probably felt that you have to be more experienced before you can charge premium prices. Maybe you feel like you have to prove yourself with free work before you can expect people to pay you. Maybe you think you have to get more certificates to feel like you’re truly an expert or that you have to hustle 24-7 to deserve that success. Does any of that sound familiar? Because women business owners are constantly undercharging, over-delivering and second-guessing themselves because we have been told that we need to earn our success in a way that men never had to, based on the examples that we have seen in life, the programming inside our brains that was put there throughout childhood and our upbringing, young, early adulthood that men with half your skills will confidently charge triple your rate, and they’ll do it without blinking. Meanwhile, you’re sitting here debating if you need to offer a discount code, before a client even asked for it.
Speaker 1:
I went through this with one of my current clients because she’s just starting her business, she’s new, and she’s like I’m so new at this, so I’m going to give a discount. Like to the point where she was basically breaking even on the product that she was giving and I was like no. I was like no, why are you even starting your business that way? You are not up for a discount. What you offer, the world is not up for a discount. Not now, not ever. You’re going to charge what you want to charge. I asked her what would you charge if you had been in business for five years? What would your rate be? She told me, and I said well, that’s what your rate’s going to be right now because you don’t have to discount yourself just because you’re starting. If that’s your rate and what you think your rate should be, then that’s what your rate will be. That’s what you charge In the future, five years from now.
Speaker 1:
If you think you’re even more badass than you are today because we all get better at things as we go, guys, because we learn, maybe we get more creative, we think of things we haven’t thought, we adjust, we evolve and you’re like you know what? I’m even more badass now than I was back then I’m going to charge even more. But you don’t discount yourself from the start. Learning is different than worth. Like you can learn, we’re always learning and evolving and getting better at our craft, whatever it is that we’re doing. But that doesn’t mean we’re not worthy in the beginning, like this client.
Speaker 1:
If you think five years some arbitrary timeline that was told to us oh, you know good businesses or you have to be in business a long time before you can actually charge what you want. You have to lessen yourself at first. No, we don’t do that around here. You know what she did. She put her pricing out there and she’s been getting orders consistently without discounting herself. She’s been doing her business for a little over a month. The thing is, she took something she had been passionate about her whole life, that she’s been doing her whole life and she turned it into a business.
Speaker 1:
Just because you’re just now starting to provide a product for others outside of your immediate family friends, you know you think you have to discount yourself. No, most of the time when we go into business, we go into business because this is something we’re passionate about, that we’ve been doing, and we want to turn it into an income stream. You already have skills. You’re just now putting business on it. You don’t discount yourself in the beginning. You don’t have to take on more clients to be worthy of higher rates. You don’t have to work yourself to burn out to deserve wealth. You don’t have to wait till you feel 100% confident before stepping into bigger opportunities. You just have to decide right now, the moment you stop seeking permission and start owning your value. That’s the moment your business shifts, your income shifts, your entire energy shifts.
Speaker 1:
I know that this isn’t just about money, because this shows up in everything. It’s why you hesitate to ask for more. It’s why you shrink yourself in conversations. It’s why you stay small, even though something bigger is calling you. I want us to break that right now. Right here today, the first thing I want you to do is burn the damn checklist, literally. If you’ve been keeping some mental or physical list of what you need to accomplish before you allow yourself to go after what you want, I want you to toss it, burn it, delete it. I want you to toss it, burn it, delete it.
Speaker 1:
You do not need to complete a certain number of steps before you are worthy of more. You don’t need to be perfect before you’re allowed to receive. The only thing that you need to do is decide that you are ready now. I am open to receiving. The second thing you need to do is stop asking for permission because no one is going to show up and say congratulations, you’ve finally done enough to earn more abundance, like my client who was going to show up to her and say, five years from now, congratulations. You can finally stop discounting yourself like a random person, because that’s what we wait for, right? We wait for that validation on the internet, through social media or something that was like you’re so great girl, you need to charge more for what you do. We wait for that moment. Why Random, and we don’t have to. That moment’s never going to come unless you create it for yourself. Give yourself permission right now to be successful, to be wealthy, to take up space, to stop explaining yourself, because if you keep waiting, you’re going to be waiting your whole life.
Speaker 1:
Number three I want you to step in and embody the version of you who already has it. I want you to stop thinking of someone who wants success and start thinking like someone who already has it. I want you to stop thinking of someone who wants success and start thinking like someone who already has it, this version of you who’s already wealthy. She’s not sitting around wondering if she deserves it, she’s living it. How would she act? How would she carry herself? How would she make decisions? And start doing that now. Because the moment you shift your identity, the universe shifts to match you. And that goes right back to my client. I asked her five years from now, what would you be charging? The version of her that she saw, the vision of her that she saw five years into her business? And she’s like my rates would be this Great, do it now Be that person now? Great, do it now Be that person now?
Speaker 1:
And a lot of people get tripped up on the embody, the version of you who already has it, because many people think that, number one, they’re like Shannon, my circumstances aren’t showing that to me. You’re looking too much at your 3D circumstances. That’s number one. Number two a lot of people think that if you are embodying that person that you want to be now, well, that person that I want to be has XYZ I don’t have XYZ or they’re able to shop and go do XYZ or spend XYZ and they’ll go into debt.
Speaker 1:
I have a whole nother episode on really, what does it mean to act as if? What does that truly mean? Because we get it so confused sometimes when we’re talking about embodying the version of ourselves that we want to be. I think a great example of it is my client who said well, the version of myself I want to be five years from now because, right, that’s how we’re taught to set goals. Oh, a year from now, three years from now, five years from now. Take that mental picture and what it looks like. And what are you charging? It’s that simple. I’m sure there’s a whole lot of other things that she’s imagining, but when you’re embodying the version of you who already has it, what does that look like For her? There was a discrepancy in what she thought she could price now and what she would price in the future and saying, no, we’re not waiting five years for that price point. You’re doing that price point right now. You’re not wondering if you deserve it. You know you deserve it. And look what happened. She shifted her identity and the universe matched her with continual orders. When I say y’all, she’s just starting out. She is just starting out.
Speaker 1:
I mean, we’re still working on her product suite, we’re still working on her social media strategy, we’re still working on so many other things in the background that goes back to perfection and worthy. Oh my gosh, I have to have everything in the background perfect. I’m so guilty of this. I had to move past this and I had a really good friend who got in my ass about that some years ago. She’s like stop it, you’re driving me crazy with this shit, like it doesn’t have to be. And it was a great lesson to learn. You learn and you take what you learn in your experience and you help others with it, right? So my client is doing this like no, we’re stepping into that energy now. It doesn’t have to be perfect. All of this stuff. It’s fine. Eventually it’s all going to catch up to itself. So we’re still doing back-end stuff. We’ve been at this for a month, but she’s doing the damn thing because she had that one identity shift of starting to do something, now embodying the version of her who already has it.
Speaker 1:
